This question type is the 2nd one in the Writing Section. Test takers are required to write an essay of a given topic within 20 minutes. The response should be within 200 to 300 words. Exam has 1-2 questions of this type.
Exam Tips
Essay writing is a simple but important task in PTE as it contributes 17% to the writing portion. The response time is quite limited, so make sure you manage your time well.
There are three steps to answering:
- Think about your argument (2 – 3 minutes)
- Write an essay with the BoostPTE WE Template (13 – 15 minutes)
- Re-read your essay (2 – 3 minutes)
Be sure to answer all the questions in the prompt. For example, if the question asks you to state the advantages and disadvantages of a certain topic, you must cover both sides in your essay.
When using the template for your answering, you should not write your essay in capital letters or bullet points. Make sure all your punctuation is correct and appropriate. To avoid making vocabulary mistakes, you should only use expressions or phrases that you are already familiar with. Always allow at least 2 to 3 minutes to check your answers before submitting, as you will be severely penalized for any spelling or grammar mistakes.
Answer Time
The maximum response time for each task is 20 minutes. This is a timed task which means that even if you complete this question early, such as you complete the questions within 15 minutes, the remaining 5 minutes will NOT be added to the next question. Therefore, there is no need to rush, and the answers should be carefully checked before submission.
Practical Goals
Practice until you can get almost full marks on the BoostPTE website. You must get a full score on Form, Grammar, Spelling, Vocabulary Range, Development, Structure, Coherence, and General Linguistic Range.
